I don't do Valentines day. Never have. As a teen it was because I never managed to pick the kind of boy that wasn't too caught up in his own Brokenness (or was that broke-ness?) to realize that behind the threats of imminent emasculation upon my seeing anything vaguely resembling a rose in my immediate vicinity was simply a preference for tulips or poppies.... Later I realized that, had a boy I was dating ever actually cognited and sent me tulips or poppies, I'd probably have had to cut him anyway, for being such a poser. And eventually I married a man who simply couldn't be bothered with all that crap and made my peace with the fact that his idea of romance is, well... Let's just call that nobody's business, okay?
So fancy me not only entering, but winning a Valentines competition. How cool is that?
And the best part is that I only found out that I'd won on February 15th, which technically removes the "Valentines" label from the whole thing, and leaves me with a new hairdo, some slinky designer clothes and a free night out. No crowds, no roses, no cheesy love songs in the background. Does it get any better?
